Fine Wine Fridays: Pieropan – Soave
In honour of Calgary’s beautiful Spring weather, we’re feeling a beautiful Italian white! From the Veneto region, winemaker Nino Pieropan’s Soave is a true gem worth trying on your next visit.
This wine is a blend of two grapes: Garganega and Trebbiano di Soave. If you are unfamiliar, this wine is dry, light to medium bodied and is often compared to lighter Pinot Grigio or heavier Chardonnay. Soave is an ideal pairing with the bright bounty of Spring, including asparagus, peas, zucchini and fresh fish.
Colour – Brilliant straw yellow with greenish hues
Nose – Ample, delicate nose of almond and cherry blossoms, elderberries and lilies of the valley
Palate – Complex and structured on the palate, with good acidity, silky texture and pleasingly bitter finish
